9.3 Degenerative abnormalities

CASE #1:

  FINDINGS:
A sizable herniated disk with inferior migration is noted at the L4-L5 level.
The signal is the same as that of the native disk on all sequences.
Postcontrast T1 and T2 weighted images show slight peripheral enhancement .
              Spinal stenosis is evident.

  DIAGNOSIS:
          9

CASE #2:

  FINDINGS:
T2: cystic structure coming from L4 facet joint compressing the posterolateral aspect of the dural sac. Facet joint hypertrophy and congenitally short pedicules
.

  DIAGNOSIS:
          9

CASE #3:

  FINDINGS:
Severe thoracic spinal cord atrophy from T7 to the conus secondary to abdominal aortic bypass for an abdominal aortic aneurysm
.

  DIAGNOSIS:
          9

CASE #4:

  FINDINGS:
Complete anterior displacement of L5 on S1 with horizontalisation of the dural canal and stenosis. Radiculars canals were also stenotic.

  DIAGNOSIS:
          9

CASE #5:

  FINDINGS:
There is an anterior epidural mass, hypointense on T1WI and T2WI. The lesion is in contact with the D8-D9 intervertebral disc which shows abnormal low signal. The mass (herniation) occupies up to 90% of the spinal canal and compresses the cord (the cord is displaced posteriorly). There is hypersignal on T2WI in the cord and slight enhancement following gadolinium injection.

  DIAGNOSIS:
          9
